Does Callro Send Blocked Calls to Voicemail? Here's Exactly What Happens.
When Callro silently drops a call, the caller does not reach your voicemail. The call is terminated before it completes. This means blocked spam callers cannot leave voicemails. Legitimate callers — people not on any spam list — ring through normally and can leave voicemails as usual. Here is exactly how each call outcome works.
The first thing most people ask after installing Callro is: "What if my doctor calls and can't leave a message?" It's the right question. You want to block spam, but you never want to miss a critical update from a real person. Understanding exactly how Callro handles voicemails is the key to trusting it to run silently in the background.
What Happens When Callro Blocks a Call
When Callro identifies a spam call, the call is terminated via Android's ROLE_CALL_SCREENING before your phone ever rings and before the call fully connects.
From the caller's perspective, the call connects very briefly and then drops, or they hear a Special Information Tone (SIT) — the three-tone disconnect signal. Because the call is explicitly rejected by the operating system, they do not get routed to your voicemail. They cannot leave a message. Your voicemail inbox stays completely clean of pre-recorded robocalls.
What Happens to Calls That Pass Through
Calls that pass Callro's behavioral analysis ring your phone normally. If you choose not to answer, or if you are busy on another call, your carrier voicemail handles it exactly as it would if Callro wasn't installed.
There is no difference in the experience for legitimate callers. If they don't reach you, they will hear your normal voicemail greeting and can leave a message.
What About Legitimate Callers Whose Numbers Look Suspicious?
Sometimes, legitimate businesses use bulk dialing systems that mimic spam behavior. If a legitimate number gets blocked (a false positive), that caller will also be disconnected and cannot leave a voicemail.
This is exactly why Callro includes an Allowlist (whitelist) feature. Callro will never block anyone in your Android contacts list. For anyone else, you can manually add their number to the Allowlist in the Callro app (Settings > Allowlist > Add Number) to ensure they always ring through, no matter how their call behaves.
What About Fortress Mode?
When you activate Fortress Mode, Callro enters its most restrictive state: only calls from your saved contacts are allowed through. All non-contacts are silently dropped.
The behavior is identical to a standard block: non-contacts are disconnected before the call completes, meaning they will not reach your voicemail. Fortress Mode is designed for periods when you need absolute silence from unknown numbers, with the trade-off that unknown callers won't be able to leave messages.
Does Callro Affect Google Voicemail or Visual Voicemail?
Callro does not interact with your voicemail system at all. It only controls whether a call connects to your phone in the first place.
Because it operates independently of your inbox, your carrier voicemail, Google Visual Voicemail, and Samsung voicemail features are completely unaffected by Callro. They will continue to function normally for any call that is allowed through.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do blocked spam callers know their call was blocked?
Often they hear a disconnect tone (SIT tone) or the call simply drops. They are not explicitly told 'Callro blocked your call,' but they know it didn't complete.
Can spam callers leave a voicemail if Callro blocks them?
No. Callro terminates the call before it completes, so the caller never reaches voicemail. They cannot leave a message.
What if my doctor's number gets blocked by mistake?
Add your doctor's number to your contacts or Callro's allowlist. Callro never blocks numbers that are in your Android contacts.
Does Callro work with Google Voice numbers?
Callro is designed to screen calls coming to your primary Android phone number via ROLE_CALL_SCREENING. Google Voice routes calls through its own app using a separate call path. Whether Callro screens Google Voice calls depends on your device configuration — check Callro's support documentation or email support@getcallro.com for device-specific guidance.
